3. Getting your internet wired
You will need:
- A computer with an ethernet port.
- An ethernet cable (these are available from the plodge or IT dept. if you don’t have one)
- Your Raven password
Also note before you start that the IT department expect you to keep your system up to date and well protected against viruses and malware if you connect to the network, for security purposes. They can help you with this if you’re unsure.
The college provides wired internet (which is quite a bit faster). I would recommend using wired if your laptop has an ethernet port because the connection is faster and more reliable. However, if your laptop can’t connect through wired or you’d rather not faff, wireless is fast enough in most college accommodation (if not shoot me or IT an email and we may be able to fix that!).
The first step (surprisingly) is to plug your ethernet cable into your computer and the ethernet port in your room. Note that some rooms have two ethernet ports but only one that works, so if you’re having trouble try the other one.
if you’re logged in with Raven, it’ll get automatically registered and you can start using it straight away. The address to try if you don’t get the form is http://register.trinhall.cam.ac.uk/.
